Questions
What is a good 5K time for my age?#
It depends on which tier you are aiming at. A 50-year-old man reaches 70% with 20:52 and 80% with 18:15. A 50-year-old woman needs 23:07 for 70% and 20:13 for 80%. The standards page for the 5K lists every age from 18 to 99.
Does this work for parkrun times?#
Yes. parkrun is 5 km, so any parkrun finish grades here exactly like a road 5K. parkrun's own age grade still runs on older factor tables, which is why the number you see there can differ by a point or two.
Which tables does this calculator use?#
Road results are graded with the Alan Jones 2025 tables, approved by the USATF Masters Long Distance Running Council in January 2025. Track uses WMA 2023. Both are single-year age tables, so the result reflects your exact age on race day rather than a five-year bracket.
What counts as a good age-graded percentage?#
The usual shorthand is 60% local class, 70% regional class, 80% national class and 90% world class. In a big-city marathon field roughly one finisher in eighty reaches 80%. Anything above 70% puts you in the sharp end of most races.
